Overview

Barmera War Memorial Gates

Located at the entrance to the oval on Barwell Avenue, the Barmera War Memorial Gates were erected to honour the memory of 18 local servicemen who lost their lives during World War II, either in active service or killed in action. The memorial consists of four pillars, with the two central ones featuring granite tablets inscribed with the names of the fallen.

The gates were officially opened on October 31, 1953. The unveiling ceremony was led by Mr. T. C. Eastick, then State President of the Returned and Services League (RSL), with a dedication service conducted by Padre E. N. Broomhead. In later years, additional plaques were added to the memorial to also commemorate those who served in conflicts following World War II.
